I’ve been working on an alternative portrait of the nation, a project documenting the homeless and rough sleepers. What drew me to this project was that you can basically learn from all aspects of life. There’s a fine line between the stars and the gutters. I’ve found people sleeping rough who came from all walks of life, from doctors to criminals and many in between. I wouldn’t want to be in that position, but you’ve got to have compassion and understanding because it actually could be you. It’s just circumstances.
