Rio de Janeiro is synonymous with Havaiana flip flops, dental floss bikinis and a sweet beach life, but it is also proving itself a major contender on the global fashion circuit. These are the people in and around the city who make it happen beyond the beach.

Zé das Medalhas works in a pharmacy in Copacabana. His bracelets, necklaces, medals and rings were presents from friends and admirers. They take him three hours to put on each morning, and he never forgets their order.

Fabiana Semprebom is a supermodel from North West Brazil. Fabiana walked in the Fashion Rio shows, chilling out by the pool, 21-year-old Fabiana is wearing a bikini by Adriana Degreas, shoes by Animale and shades by Cutler and Gross.

Flavia De Oliveira is an international supermodel from Londrina in North West Brazil. When the 23-year-old is not strutting her stuff on catwalks across the globe (her most recent show was Dior) or hanging out in her New York pad, Flavia loves nothing more than returning to her home country to chill out on Rio’s beaches.
