Shaun Samson = hot stuff right now

The “Filipino-Californian-American” designer stole the show at London’s menswear day with his rainbow bright collection of surf’s-up stripes, fabric fusion and dip-dyed sunglasses – set to a soundtrack of Nirvana’s Bleach, Outkast’s So Fresh And So Clean (Clean) and Weezy’s freestyles. Shaun was brought up in San Diego, moved to Los Angeles at 18, moved to London at 23, and just closed the MAN show at the Royal Opera House. “You know the whole Mexican blanket thing?” asks Shaun. “For some reason this time around I was really attracted to them, even though I’ve been exposed to them my whole life growing up in California. It was like a mash up of different ideas. I also researched surfers, and 90s grunge – the style, the mentality, the emo-ness of it all – the rise of gangsta rap, and all these urban street cultures that were around California when I was growing up.”
