Photographer Daniel Sannwald and Fashion Director Charlotte Stockdale shoot Karmen Pedaru on thermal camera, phone and hasselblad in a technologic fashion experiment. Here Daniel explains his concept and reckons the future of digital image-making.
How did you come up with the idea for the shoot? I love to experiment and to find new ways to create images. I have a constant hunger for new technology and cameras I have not tried out yet. I recently shot super model Karlie Kloss with my old flip phone camera and loved the texture and colour quality. I wanted to combine different textures and qualities for the editorial with Karmen Pedaru. The idea to combine phone, hasselblad and a Thermal Camera was very spontaneous.
Were there any heat camera photographs/ images/ film scenes that particularly inspired you? I watched a documentary on mountain leopards and they filmed all the night shoots with a thermal camera. The thermal footage was really amazing as it reveals the body temperature of what’s shot… and 37.6 Celsius is even hot for Karmen Pedaru.
Do you often see colour in this way? sure…Thermal Cyborg Sannwald!
What do think the future of image-making is? It’s all about re-introducing “Excitements and Dreams”.
