Thomas Degen is a freelance photographer. Born in Germany in 1955, Degen launched himself as a professional photographer in 1979. On moving to London in the early 80s he began to contribute to i-D. Thomas shot the cover of The Sweat is Best issue of i-D, art directed by Terry Jones. This was the 6th issue of i-D ever published and cost a mere 75pence. During this time, Degen also contributed to ‘Vogue’. He has since shot fashion and beauty for numerous European clients, while Degen’s international photographic projects have seen him travel to Afghanistan, Africa, India, Jamaica, Japan and the USA. Degen’s favourite issue of i-D is the second issue, The Star Issue, printed in November 1980, which cost 60pence.
