Stuart Brumfitt came to London from Bradford via Manchester, Toulouse and Paris. French-speaking and Spanish-learning, he loves a language and is well-travelled too: Brazil and Spain being his favourite holiday spots, but Senegal and India his greatest adventures. His teens in the late ‘90s were taken up by R&B, hip hop, house, i-D, The Face, MTV Base, skiing and tennis, and things have remained much the same since, except The Face went kaput and he doesn’t have a working telly for Base. He’s had a colour blog since 2010, but has only made one post – ‘A Bigger Splash’ by his idol and fellow Bradfordian David Hockney.
After working on a documentary about Jordan and Peter’s wedding, Stuart Brumfitt decided TV wasn’t for him and came to intern at i-D to pursue his passion for fashion, culture and magazines. Whilst transcribing a tape of Catherine Deneuve and hearing that her sparkling water of choice was San Pellegrino, because Perrier was “too fizzy”, he knew he’d made the right choice. He later went on to become Editor of gay magazine Boyz where he interviewed everyone from Lady Gaga to Gilbert & George and John Waters to Chaka Khan. He freelances for Wonderland, The Guardian, The Observer, RollaCoaster, Acne Paper, House and Man About Town and for i-D Online has interviewed rapper Skepta and profiled furniture designer John Makepeace among others. He specialises in music, film, fashion and photography.
