Born in 1961 in Berwick-Upon-Tweed, Simon Foxton has been contributing to i-D since the magazine featured his Central Saint Martins graduate collection in 1983. Subsequently, then Fashion Editor Caryn Franklin asked him if he wanted to do some styling. Simon met up with Terry Jones, who introduced him to Nick Knight, who he has continued to collaborate with ever since. Today, Simon is i-D’s much loved Consultant Fashion Director and is inspired by “the same things as always; looking at people and twisting and mixing dress codes”. He has also contributed to a number of international publications including The Face, Arena Homme Plus, Vogue Hommes International, Details, W and Big Magazine and is Fashion Director at Fantastic Man. Simon has also worked as creative consultant for commercial clients such as Levi’s, Converse and Caterpillar. The Photographer’s Gallery in London hosted his first solo exhibition in 2009. Simon identifies his most memorable cover as the first one he styled because of its graphic strength; an image of Sara Stockbridge by Nick Knight for The Holiday Issue, August 1987.
