Robert Erdmann

Robert Erdmann studied History of Photography at Princeton University in New Jersey. He went on to assist Helmut Newton, among other photographers, before moving to Italy to work as a stylist. Erdmann moved to London in 1984 where he set about establishing himself as a photographer; shooting fashion, as well as musicians such as Iggy Pop, Kylie Minogue, Frankie Goes to Hollywood, Simply Red and Bananarama for magazines including i-D and The Face. Erdmann has shot six covers for i-D including Naomi Campbell’s first i-D cover, The Dramatic Issue in August 1986. He has also contributed to French, British and German Vogue’s, various Elle’s, Marie Claire, assorted magazines at US Condé Nast’, as well as men’s magazines including British GQ, US GQ, L’uomo Vogue, Vogue Hommes and Vogue Hommes International. More recently for i-D, Robert shot The Late Birds, a Los Angeles based moped gang. Erdmann is now based in Los Angeles.
