Richard Burbridge began his career in photography in the early nineties and moved to New York in 1993, where he is still based. His first contribution to i-D was a picture of an exploding firework, after he met Nick Knight. “I went and met with Nick, who was the photo editor. Nick asked me if I would like to shoot for the magazine. I said yes.” Richard has since photographed numerous i-D covers, his favourite being his first with Amber Valetta for The Kinetic Issue in March 1999. Burbridge collects old scientific and optical devices and his interest in science is often reflected in his photography. He is also heavily inspired by art, particularly that of Sigmar Polke. As well as i-D, Burbridge has contributed to magazines such as Self Service, Another, Vogue Italia and V. He has also shot commercial work for clients including MAC, Givenchy, Hermes and Louis Vuitton.
