From the voluminous golden hair to the tan, the impossible curves and exponential legs, Gisele is arguably one of the most successful and widely recognised models in the world. She was training to be a professional volleyball player when she was scouted at the age of fourteen while on a school trip. Since her career began in 1996, Gisele has received the prestigious VH-1/ Vogue Model of the Year award, 1999, and been heralded ‘Model of the Millennium’. Despite her worldwide success, the ever-modest Gisele confesses that she didn’t think she could be a model because her nose was ‘too big’. She has been the face of Dior, Balenciaga, Dolce & Gabbana, Celine, Givenchy, Lanvin, Valentino and more, and graced the covers of magazines including Vogue, V, The Face, and i-D. Gisele’s first cover for i-D was The Cheeky Issue (December 1998); she also appeared on The Drenched Issue (March 2000), The Portrait Issue, (February 2002), The Upbeat Issue (March 2006) and The Head, Shoulders, Knees and Toes Issue (Summer 2010). Gisele is President of the Luz Foundation, which offers support to women and girls and is the spokesperson and model for Fashion Targets Breast Cancer. In 2009 she married National Football League star Tom Brady and later that year gave birth to son Benjamin.
