Emma Summerton’s first editorial work for i-D was a shoot with Lily Cole, styled by Edward Enninful in Prague. She fondly remembers, “it was a great beginning to be working with such fantastic people in a magical city; we had a blast!” The Australian born photographer studied Fine Art at the National Art School in Sydney then worked as a photographic assistant for five years. She moved to London in 1998 and assisted Turner Prize nominated artist Fiona Banners. Her main inspirations? “The people I work with constantly inspire me! Then there is art, music, films, books, the fabulous fashion we get to play with and of course great models who transform and perform taking on all different characters for the camera. I also get a lot of inspiration from my friends including my boyfriend who is also a photographer.” Her favourite i-D cover contribution was also her first, The Wealth Issue in September 2006 which featured Claudia Schiffer styled by Edward Enninful. She describes this as a landmark moment in her career. As well as working with i-D, Summerton has shot editorial work for publications including British, Italian, Nippon and American Vogue and has also worked on many commercial projects for clients such as Yves Saint Laurent, Miu Miu and Jaeger.
