Ellen von Unwerth was born in Frankfurt in 1954. She started her career as a model before becoming a photographer in 1986. Ellen has since established herself as one of the most prominent female fashion photographers and directors working today. Her photographs focus on the erotic and feminine and lend themselves perfectly to fashion photography. Ellen’s work has been exhibited all over the world and appeared in Vogue, W, Interview, Details and The Face to name just a few. A regular contributor to i-D, Ellen has shot ten covers including Kylie Minogue, Bjork, Drew Barrymore, Courtney Love and Victoria Beckham. Her advertising work includes campaigns for Victoria’s Secret, H&M, Guess, Diesel and Chanel. Ellen has also directed short films for Azzedine Alaia and Katherine Hammet and music videos for Duran Duran, Salt’n’Pepa and Christina Aguilera. To date six books of her work have been published.
