Vivienne Westwood’s girls stalked down a dusky runway with heads held high, white faces accentuated with rainbow colours and warrior princess style waist-length braids. They are next season’s glamorous climate change rebels leading the newest movement of the revolution: Save the Arctic. Alongside Greenpeace, Queen Viv took inspiration from Medieval illuminated manuscripts and the crusaders who cover their pages with luxuries and ideas brought back from Italy and the Arab world, weaving olden-day illustrations into her garments alongside huge statements reading ‘CLIMATE’ and slogan tee’s with ‘Save the Arctic’ printed across them. But aside from the clever and entirely relevant message always present in her collections, it was a marvel from a tailoring and design point of view too. Cobwebbed trousers, a broad-shouldered pin-striped pant-suit and dresses made from sequins that shimmered pink and blue like fairy-tale chainmail showed the cutting and draping skills that run alongside her manifesto. Climate Revolution is a big deal and Vivienne Westwood can kit us out in armour to see it through!
