With the opening of new restaurant Beagle, krankbrother promise to serve up a hearty helping of music, food and drink.
Known for throwing parties in all manner of rare and unusual locations, it should come as little surprise that Danny and Kieran Clancy saw something special in three beautiful railway arches. Chancing upon the forgotten space next to Hoxton Station, the brothers pounced on the opportunity to combine their three main passions of music, food and drink. Taking its name from one of the locomotives that used to operate on the old North London line that ran overhead, Beagle will house a restaurant, bar and coffee shop. With one of London’s most exciting young chefs, James Ferguson, devising a daily changing, seasonal menu and krankbrother in charge of the playlist, all of our senses are in for a treat. To whet your appetite, Danny Clancy helps to set the scene and provides a little taster of tunes, an amuse bouche of everything from Afrobeat to Rockabilly.
‘Beagle is a project that Kieran and I have been working on for 25 months now. When we first saw the three railway arches that Beagle will be housed in, we knew we had to do something there, it was then just a matter of deciding exactly what. Music, food and drink have always been our main passions so we were excited to find a site appropriate to indulge in all these under one roof. A chance encounter with James Ferguson made us realise that he was our man to bring people to the arches. We’d been eating James’ food at Rochelle Canteen for years so we knew exactly what he could bring to the table! He’d trained with Gordon Ramsey, Angela Hartnett and Marco Pierre White before going to work for Margot Henderson, where he explored his passion for simple, honest, seasonal food rather than fine dining. James’ food is produce led and largely British, but there is a Mediterranean influence there due to his growing up helping in his Dad’s Greek restaurant in Halifax. In fact a couple of his best recipes come straight from his Granny! Once James was on board, Myles Davies joined as our bar manager. With him we worked on a small and seasonal cocktail list that is quick to serve and unpretentious. Alongside cocktails, we’ll be serving a nice selection of locally brewed craft beers and wines from all over the world. Outside of the restaurant, Kieran and I are better known for throwing parties under the name krankbrother. We specialise in using rare and unused locations for shows and last year we did parties on rooftops, streets, a yacht, and theatres in London, Ibiza, Sao Paulo, Berlin and Croatia to name a few. When we’re dj-ing at these events, it’s always house, techno and disco. But we both have a huge interest in other types of music so it’s nice to finally have an outlet in Beagle to dig thorough our collections and play some of this. The playlist here is a taster of what you’ll be hearing in Beagle. We’ll be playing everything from Afrobeat to Psyche, Art Rock to Rockabilly, Krautrock to Blues and of course much more. Enjoy!’
