Straight Up: Weird Luke

Weird Luke is 19 and makes action figures. He’s got a Punk brain. Photographed by Darren Hall, Weird Luke thinks love is a stupid question and the future is excessive. With The Met’s Punk exhibition looming large and Punk infiltrations on the Paris catwalks, we thought today was a great day to feature Weird Luke, straight up.

Name: Weird Luke
Where are you from? Brooklyn
What do you do? Toy maker
What are you wearing? A jacket I made. Replica ‘Sex’ sweatshirt I got on Ebay. Some trousers I got from Thailand, on Ebay- I think they’re 1940s German or something. The boots are 1970s Alpine Stars and I’m wearing my Glue-tility Belt.
Define your style… I dunno. Punk? (Definitely with a question mark!)
What was the last track you played on your iPod? I have a cassette player. The last track I listened to was ‘Shooting Glue’ by Cülo.
What’s in your pocket? I have this Swedish Mauser belt with my cassette player, two of my toys, some lighters.
Are you in love? That’s a stupid question. It’s just a collection of hormones and chemicals, so no.
What you up to this weekend? I’m going to a couple of gigs. ABC No Rio and then a place in Bushwick on Saturday, then Sunday I’m meeting my friend to dick around for a few hours.
What are your hopes for the future? There is too much future.
