Born in black and white.
It’s the first of the month and something’s going down in Paris’ classiest arrondissement, the 7th. Today Karl Lagerfeld opened his first European concept store at 194 Boulevard St Germain, with a theme that matches his style to a T: monochrome. The 200 sqm space is a sleek sweep of clean white walls and black shelving showcasing all three of Mr Lagerfeld’s ready-to-wear collections, Karl, Karl Lagerfeld Paris and Lagerfeld as well as handbags, shoes and other miscellaneous Karl curated items. When the dark-eyed designer himself isn’t stalking through the shop with Saskia de Brauw on one arm and Arizona Muse on the other, you can spot him in the details; Karl profiles outlined on the side of the shelves or in limited edition Karl shaped tokidoki’s, those archetypally multi-coloured Japanese dolls, which have shed their colour especially to fit Karl’s creative license.
