Unfolding across a series of glowing white spaces in the Saatchi Gallery, and the foreboding, stabbing strings of the Requiem For A Dream soundtrack, the epic stage was set for Vivienne Westwood Red Label. As befits a designer described by her pal Boy George as “mad as a box of frogs”, this collection was brimming with countless inspired ideas, colliding together in a sparkly magpie mix. Things that stood out (apart from the odd mind-boggling cleavage) were stripes and metallics. We loved looks 22, a rainbow-glitter-zebra-striped prom dress, and especially 28 – blonde babe Soo Joo in a liquid metal biker jacket and mirrored parachute pantaloons, looking like she’d stepped off a Mariko Mori UFO. And like last season the cosmetics were outstanding, with Val Garland’s theatrical make-up transforming models into painted Picasso clowns.
