With turn-of-the-millennium fantasies Ally McBeal and Bridget Jones playing through lonely nights in the studio, and lurex slogans crying “PU**Y CUM ASK ME OUT” under ethereal frocks of tulle, Ryan Lo’s collection offered a wonderfully seductive love story. Crushes, desires, frustrations channelled into a candy floss fur twinset, a black pussy-bow blouse, pyjamas printed with multi-coloured cats. It was, without a doubt, the most fun collection of fashion week. One girl wore her shimmering Pocky-pink nightie under her caramel robe coat, in rose-patterned boiled wool with a purple foil trim, lost in her daydreams. Another wore a messy Cruella de Vil coat all sticky and matted – maybe with tears, or spilt rosé, or something else entirely? These were sexy schoolgirl looks for watching your phone, waiting for love. In a flight of Sailor Moon fantasy, Eleanor Hayes – her hair coloured emerald blue – was dressed as an anime superhero in a love-heart top, sparkly tutu and tangerine pompom… while Flo Dron was a Tumblr princess in wavy ruffles of melon, peach and grape soda organza, with silver ribbons in her Converse, pearls around her neck and party decorations in her hair. With clothes like this, dreams can come true!
