Ornate, masterful and exuding class, Roberto Cavalli refined the art of seduction with his autumn/winter masterpiece. Referencing the formative creative background which gave rise to his illustrious aesthetic, grandson of Giuseppe Rossi, a painter from the Macchiaioli movement, Roberto Cavalli showed a suitably lavish collection in Milan on Saturday. Reflecting on the delicate craftsmanship and works of art he grew up immersed in, an intense Cavalli world came to life on his chosen canvas, the runway. Working from a palette of black, white, silver and magenta, cobalt blue, aquamarine with tones of violet, printed double reversed tuxedos, tweed tops embellished with sequins, mini-skirts with micro-steel inlays and fox fur with chiseled detailing and tri-dimensional jacquard delicately fitted each frame. Creating long, elegant silhouettes, which sensually hinted at what lay underneath, a provocative and opulent feeling was achieved with each outfit. Sombre and brooding, skin was pale, exaggerated by dark eyes and slicked back hair. Soft accessories flattered the bold aesthetic, with statement necklaces sculpted and inspired by moths, snakes, roses, raspberries and blueberries. Brooches with eagles on the tuxedo shirt collars and large earring-sculptures, jewellery nestled within fox furs and chiffon. An emotional and brave aesthetic, Cavalli defied trends to define a standout season for the label. Full of statement looks and instantly identifiable, the Cavalli woman for autumn/winter 13 is elegant and assured.
