Robyn Rihanna Fenty is so much more than a performer. Now a designer, she is a lifestyle, an icon and the international brand taking over the world. Collaborating with cult British high street chain River Island to design her first ever fashion collection for AW13, 24-year-old Barbadian beauty Rhi Rhi took to the runway last night, arm in arm with stylist and confidant Mel Ottenberg to bow for the finale of her 120-piece catwalk show. Working closely with Mel and designer Adam Selman, the podium of stages constructed in the Old Sorting Offices, Holborn, housed the highly anticipated show, with Cara Delevingne and Jourdan Dunn sat proudly on the front row. Staying true to Rihanna’s laid back sexy-casual aesthetic, jersey skirts, varsity jackets, jumpsuits, tencel twill parkas and fine gauge knits filed out, hung elegantly on a beautifully cast army of elegant, fierce models. Accessorised by snap backs, ankle boots, loose chains and shirts tied around waists, the colour palette was kept primary and hair and makeup slick but simple. Effortless with attitude, the brutal soundtrack, produced by Seb Chew and show production by My Beautiful City made even the frow attendees move, dance, and applaud. Dramatically changing up the more reserved attitude fashion shows tend to rile, Rihanna’s infectious and diva like presence on the high street will be undeniably epic. Whether this will translate to high fashion is less likely, but then, who can resist Rihanna? The answer is no-one.
