Reed Krakoff had his unofficial swearing in to the fashion elite earlier this year when Michelle Obama chose him to clothe her for her husband’s private swearing in and official inauguration. Whether it was the success of the navy Mrs Obama wore or Krakoff’s newfound sense of sophisticated simplicity, dark blue came in every shade for his AW13 collection. Subtle looks can easily be by-passed as blasé but Krakoff introduced complex tailoring and managed to fit sheer, silk, leather, pony-hair and crocodile skin print into clean shapes without overdoing it. Chunky thigh-high boots were a highlight with a shimmering crocodile print raglan top a close second. These are smart clothes for the typically dressed down, always low-key, never OTT lady; the perfect mix of femininity and functionality.
