If there was ever a time to look at coats and sweaters, this season’s blizzard-stricken New York Fashion Week would be it. There was something quite priceless about the sight of the down at heel fashion crowd waiting for the rag & bone show to start at the Monynhian Station, all mummified in their snow-sprinkled scarves and hoods, huddled together like penguins on the ice cap. (Penguins in Prada, at least.) In an ironic twist, however, the rag & bone AW13 collection tackled a rather different kind of winter than the one that’s, quite literally, hitting us in the face right now in New York. Mini skirts and short outerwear made for a winter wardrobe suited perfectly for British expats David Neville and Marcus Wainwright’s native country, and as things go in the world of rag & bone, English elements were aplenty. Tweed jackets, maximised aviator jackets and houndstooth cemented a feeling of Britain, while the collection’s excellent masculine tailoring underlined the urban elegance of the ever so modern rag & bone woman.
