The backdrop set the mood for Prada this season. The shadow of a cat overlooking a hot tin roof and the silhouette of a girl playing seductively with her hair. Romantic and cinematic, it harkened back to the recent costumes Miuccia Prada designed for Baz Lurhmann’s highly anticipated film, The Great Gatsby. A celebration of dishevelled glamour. Models meandered down the catwalk with the shoulders of their dresses all askew. Their hair wet from the shower. Dresses came nipped in at the waist and flared out around the hips in blue and pink gingham, while the cuffs on grey coats were worn deliciously oversized and laced in fur. Cropped tweed jackets were accentuated with flashes of blue and pink waist bands. While tweed button down dresses came split at the side to reveal flowing fabrics laden with black embroidery and jewels. The chunky metallic platforms and even chunkier brogues created an unapologetically urban edge. As did the introduction of a new bag with a rounder, sportier shape. “Raw elegance,” were the words Miuccia used to describe the collection to the hoards of journalists waiting to congratulate her after show. Sitting on the right side of romantic, it oozed a bohemian beauty and sexuality that guarantees these clothes are going to sell.
