There’s a lot to be said for playing The Imperial March from Stars Wars in a fashion context, and when the enactment even references the galactic armies of storm troopers, as in the case of the Moncler Grenoble presentation at Gotham Hall on Saturday evening, the result is pretty epic. Sci-fi wasn’t actually the point of departure for the grand staging where 370 models were lined up in rows in a huge elevated circle under a mirror ceiling, which multiplied the effect. Instead, the Moncler team had looked to the mountains on which their legacy was formed for inspiration. Under the impressive light show, and with the multitude of greens of the collection’s urban takes on skiwear classics, the models looked like trees covering a mountain slope, even if said trees and their ski goggles still had a Darth Vader vibe to them, perhaps via Daft Punk, who also appeared in the soundtrack.
