“Basically every picture we take is a self-portrait — a picture of how we feel at that moment in our lives.” Over the next five weeks, the Gagosian will be home to Inez van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin’s brilliant biography and bewildering body of work.

Born in Amsterdam, Inez van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin met in art school and have been partners in life and work ever since. Launching their international career with a ten page editorial in The Face back in 1994, the pair have created images for leading luxury fashion brands and magazines including i-D, Interview, V, Vogue and W. Through contemporary mediums of photography and harnessing the power of digital manipulation, the talented twosome continue to express a vast combination of human identities, combining the beautiful with the bizarre, the classic with the extreme.
For their first exhibition at the Gagosian Gallery in Paris each photo has been sized and installed in trios to create links between different epochs and subjects of Inez & Vinoodh’s work. From Lady Gaga as her alter ego Joe Calderone, to the three-headed ‘LucyFer’, to an exquisite study of snowdrops, the colourful combinations place the familiar alongside the new. Among the photographic permutations, the pair introduce their beautiful flower photographs. The choreographed anemones and lilies add an analytical precision and freshness to this compelling collection of images.
Inez & Vinoodh runs until 9th March 2013 at Gagosian Paris, 4 rue de Ponthieu, 75008 Paris.
