This is not your customary lamp. Lighting up our Friday, The White Lamp step in with this week’s i‑DJ and set the tone for their upcoming headline show at i‑D Mix Night.
This secretive duo consists of a London based DJ/producer and a Bristolian vocalist, both of whom remain somewhat of a mystery! They cite Prince, DJ Pierre, Quincy Jones, Kraftwerk and King Tubby as their eclectic list of influencers along with a nod to African music and Jazz production, which you can certainly catch in their sounds. Creating feel good music with soulful melodies and cool grooves to make you move, the pair have been championed by Gilles Peterson on his Brownsood Bubblers compilation series with their track ‘Make It Good’. Shooting in to view with their release, ‘It’s You’, their debut on Futureboogie, there’s plenty more music set for release this year. Although they wouldn’t tell us their names, they did deliver by way of a mix. The deep house and disco vibes running all the way through this are just a teaser for what’s in store for i‑D’s Mix Night at XOYO next week. Push the levels, turn off the lights and put on The White Lamp.
