The DKNY girl has always been a sophisticated New Yorker who knows how to have a little fun and AW13 was no exception, offering a smart, slick collection that played beautifully with an array of textures, colours and prints. Kicking off with oversized wool coats and figure-hugging pencil dresses, forever on-trend leopard print quickly became the staple ingredient with various versions emblazoned on knitwear, dresses, skirts and heeled boots. A smart winter palette of beige, black and dark blue later gave way to warming reds and hot pinks in garments that were both elegant and fun. Whilst catering for the working woman throughout with trouser suits, sharply tailored jackets and plenty of layering, there was also a good injection of youthfulness, where cute beanie hats were paired with a-line skirts, short dresses and leather-panelled bomber jackets – and of course not forgetting the rapper-style ‘D’ and ‘K’ emblem necklaces that the models wore with attitude. With girl-of-the moment Cara Delevingne repping the British isles, this was power-dressing with a twist.
