‘Proportion, precision, ease’ said Creative Director Thomas Mair. This season the luxury house focused on fabrics, mixing light and heavy materials together, straw with leather and fine silk with boiled felt. It felt like art – the sharply contrasted textures like dashings of acrylic on canvas and the concentrated colour palette of black (lots of), camel and red. Low hems and sharp, pointy shoulders painted an elegant but dominant silhouette, offset by 40s frizzed out hair, which became especially stunning after the girls had left the show and were hurrying to the next amongst the crowds, like diamonds. A sophisticated collection where the fabric did the talking, Bottega Veneta oozed luxury, but simply, without excess.
