Antonio Marras is well known for weaving a narrative into everything he does and for autumn/winter 13 he explored the lives of the Bloomsbury Set; an influential group of English writers, philosophers, artists and intellectuals that included the likes of Virginia Woolf and E.M Forster. Marras transformed a large Milanese warehouse into an old bohemian house full of winding corridors and rooms each housing a different scene. Two girls lounging in a big brass bed drinking tea. An old lady drawing while a young girl plays double bass and a man and his two daughters tending to tulips in a greenhouse. “It is to-day in which we live… Another time has other lives to live,” read the thought-provoking quote by Wystan Hugh Auden placed on each of our seats. The sense of Britishness swept through the clothes. There were rose printed pencil skirts, blazers and capes and large slouchy knits enhanced with vibrant spring like blooms. A canary yellow A-line overcoat and skirt suit added a flash of British eccentricity to the collection. While pinstripe trouser suits and heavy tweed skirts, jackets and suits – spliced with different materials, with Marras texture is key – added a beauty that was poetic yet low-key.
