“Faux chic, feigned nonchalance and naughtiness”, are the five words Xander Zhou used to describe his AW13 collection entitled ‘Homies’. The young Chinese designer presented a fittingly themed collection to top off the super successful second London Collections: Men, with the slogan ‘Boys will be boys’ spray painted to the back wall and sewed onto sweaters. Models were suited and booted with hoodies over their blazers and sunnies sitting underneath slick middle partings, weaving his street-wear influences into smart tailoring. Heavy floor-length overcoats were balanced out with sliced off shoulders and thick cropped jumpers in every shade of grey before playful splashes of baby blue and bright red, but our favourites were the shoes; 80s inspired sports themed brogues and boots with contrasting patent textures and retro patterns. A collection for back alley boys who get up to ‘the kind of mischief that is charming rather than offensive,’ Xander told i-D.
