Just because guests were served the poshest cappuccino in Paris pre-show doesn’t mean our friends at Lanvin are all about the glitz and glamour. They might be a tad ritzy, but if anyone knows how to dress a man, it’s Lucas and Alber. And so, Messrs Ossendrijver and Elbaz pulled out the classics: the long double-breasted coat, the little black blazer, and the bomber, but gave them a voluminous twist, which gently pushed the Lanvin agenda. “I felt kind of contradictory this season,” Lucas told i-D backstage. “In the beginning I thought, ‘I want to go back to classics,’ but then, during the season, I started experimenting. I wanted volume. I wanted to really contemplate on cuts and all of our proportions.” It was an approach to the Lanvin gene pool, which – fused with an array of blues, from sky to navy to powdery – fortified the strengths of the house, its appeal to the male customer, and its ability to develop his taste and experimentation through the known. “And no gimmicks,” Lucas said. “It’s all about what can function in real life. That was very important.”
