From a canine celebration to a greasy spoon, a cosmic creation to consumer brand submission, nothing represented the diversity of London menswear design talent quite like the Fashion East Menswear Installations at this season’s London Collections: Men. Returning to the impressive and ornate Georgian townhouse in the heart of St. James’, the next generation of menswear heavyweights included Kit Neale, Meadham Kirchhoff, Bobby Abley, Joseph Turvey, Nasir Mazhar and Maarten van der Horst. Noisy neighbours to Buckingham Palace for the day, this seemingly incongruous lineup combined to create something truly special and truly London.
Stepping in to the spotlight, Joseph Turvey presented a succinct production of 101 Dalmatians complete with five attention stealing cameos from puppies and a collaboration with Hush Puppies. “I moved into a new studio and had to puppy sit an amazing cockapoodle and it just triggered an obsession. I was drawn to the idea of owners looking like their dogs and this of course led me to Cruella De Vil who was the style icon of the season. I wanted to create a gang for her.” Building on his love of illustration and exploring new fabrications, Cruella’s pack were treated to seven distinct looks that melted our hearts and wrestled the scene back from their pedigree chums. Here, filmmaker and photographer Juan Jose Lorenzo channels the classic Disney favourite in a print-astic production.
