If you go down to the woods today, you’re sure of a big surprise. If you go down to the woods today, you’ll probably find a 6ft model wearing headwear adorned with animal ears (the work of Stephen Jones). What’s not to like when you see a man in a hat that reminds you of Mickey and Bugs? This is why we love Comme so much. Their wonderfully eccentric and odd worlds have influenced many but they are still King, and Rei Kawakubo is still very much wearing the crown. Throughout this show, a childish spirit mixed with the attitude of a rebellious teenager. The hair was a brilliantly simple middle parting which referenced the good old Madchester days of Shaun Ryder. The hoodies were big and slouchy and layered with more regal overcoats to strike the perfect balance. These boys looked like they were ready to have some fun. The collection looked effortless. There was a sense of waking up, going to the wardrobe with your eyes shut and grabbing things to make up the day’s look. I’ve always believed in this formula and I think there are a lot of people that should take a good long look at the Comme philosophy. A definite highlight of Paris fashion week.
