From the grunge of Courtney clones to dazzling disco and salacious showgirls, Edward Meadham and Benjamin Kirchhoff’s fashion fanfares never fail to leave us dancing. Given that choice hits from the duo’s eclectic shared soundtrack are stitched into every seam of their sumptuous seasonal tales, we couldn’t resist asking the boys about their music loves. And to help bring their musings to life, stylist Paul Joyce and photographer Lorenzo Dalbosco asked Carson to model, wearing Meadham Kirchhoff SS13.

What music were you listening to in the studio whilst creating your last collection?
Edward Meadham (EM): Fleetwood Mac, ‘Rumours’ on repeat for months.
Benjamin Kirchhoff (BK): For menswear I was listening to a lot of The Smiths and Nirvana.

What music are you listening to in the studio at the moment? Do you think it has any effect on your working process?
EM: Right now the studio is silent. I guess this is a reflection of the process.

Do you ever argue over what’s on the stereo?
EM: No, I have control of that.

What’s your favourite music video?
EM: ‘Miss world’ by Hole.
BK: ‘Heart shape box’ by Nirvana.

If you could choose a musician, living or dead, to perform live at your next presentation/ show, who would you choose?
EM: I haven’t thought of the show yet so it would depend upon what would be contextually appropriate for the collection/show.
BK: I would not do that.

What was the last song you listened to on your iPod?
EM: I don’t have an iPod.
BK: Neither do I.

Who are your musical heroes?
EM: Courtney Love, Nina Simone, Kat Beijland, Kathi Wilcox, Phil Spector, Lydia Lunch and Madonna.
BK: Noir Desir, Kate Bush, PJ Harvey, Georges Brassens, Les Rita Mitsouko and Hole.

What song have you listened to so much you can’t bear to ever listen to it again?
EM: Oh god so many… too many to narrow down. I haven’t been able to hear ‘Blue Monday’ by New Order since 1999.
BK: Anything by Mariah Carey. It was forced upon me by social circumstances, I would never have chosen.

What was the first album/ single you ever bought?
EM: The first single I bought was a cover of Cat Stephens ‘Moon Shadow’. I can’t even remember who it was. I got it free with a pair of new school shoes from Clarks. The first album was the first Kylie Minogue album.
BK: Probably something by Chantal Goya as a first single (French children TV presenter). The first album was ‘Dangerous’ by Michael Jackson.

What song has helped you heal a broken heart?
EM: ‘Say hello, wave goodbye’ by Soft Cell.
BK: ‘I just don’t know what to do with myself’ by Dusty Springfield.

Who’s the best dressed music artist in the industry?
EM: Nobody contemporary.
BK: No one really, they’re all wearing costumes, not fashion.
