We recently interviewed Vanity Fair Style Director, Michael Roberts, about his friend Grace Coddington, whose wink on the cover of i-D’s Winter Issue has become iconic in a matter of weeks. To coincide with the release of her beautifully orange hardback Grace A Memoir, which features many of the style cat’s own illustrations, and in honour of Michael Roberts’ own illustration of Grace, printed on a T-shirt for Browns, i-D started a competition, asking our readers to draw Grace Coddington.
Now competition submissions are usually a mixed bag, but for Grace, it was only the best. We got so excited about it in the office, every entry was emailed around the team and opinions went flying. Michael Roberts kindly agreed to judge the entries, so without further adieu, we announce our winner, Joey Holthaus, our first runner up, Rebecca Clarke, and our second runner up, Toby Neilan. M. Roberts said of Joey’s winning entry, “The hair as a dress is my overall favourite, even though the style of drawing of the other two is much more ‘me’. But the whimsical ‘hair dress’ is so very Grace it deserves to win.”
We will be dispatching prizes including Michael Roberts’ Grace T-shirt, a signed copy of Grace A Memoir and a signed copy of the i-D Grace cover shortly! Thanks to all who entered, every entry was enjoyed.
