My i-D 2012: Sarah Raphael

In My i-D, the i-D family choose their favourite moments from i-D and i-Donline.com over the last twelve months. Continuing the series, Online Editor Sarah Raphael picks her favourite things and people featured in 2012.

Describe yourself in five words… Rainbows, Sunshine, Caramel… Only joking!

What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever been given? Pearls of wisdom from my father: ‘Sometimes you’re the dog. Sometimes you’re the tree.’

What advice would you give someone wishing to follow in your footsteps? Say yes to every opportunity, even if it seems weird/ boring/ pointless because you never know which lead the dog is attached to.

What are your three rules to live by?
1. Work hard and be nice to people.
2. Say yes more than no.
3. Don’t compare yourself.

What’s your… favourite cover from i-D in 2012? Li Zheng by Chen Man because I watched the picture happen in Beijing.

Favourite wink from i-D in 2012? Sam Riley at the premiere of On the Road, for Instagram. He said: ‘You don’t need to tell me about the wink. Right eye yeah. Do you promise this is legitimate?’
