“Musicality and soul. If it doesn’t have either then it’s not really me,” explains Noisses. Ahead of i-D and Black Butter’s steaming seasonal mix night on December 21st at XOYO, we go deep i-N Conversation with the genre-less producer.
North London raised Black Butter Records representative Noisses grew up on a healthy dose of Jazz with an ear for music from the get go, jumping into production at the age of 15 on his Atari. Over the years his sound has evolved. Having ripped up the rule book, Noisses is enjoying blending sounds and gaining the attention of the industry. Radio 1’s Zane Lowe championed his most recent release ‘Run Your Mouth’, which featured the the likes of RTKAL, Foreign Beggars and Lady Leshurr, as a hot tip for 2013 and the video triumphed in picking up the accolade for Best Urban Budget Video at the UK Music Video Awards. Noisses has proved himself to be one to listen out for.
With a discography that travels through house, dubstep, garage and grime, the production sounds that Noisses encompass seem to know no limits. Paying homage to Rudimental and the increasing acceptance of variation in production styles he says, “I like to make all different types of music because I don’t think there’s any rules anymore… If you’re an artist you should be allowed to express yourself using any form or style you want.” Look right to join the i-N Conversation.
We went back to him on his top three tunes of the moment and here’s what we got:
1. Lana Del Ray – Ride (MJ Cole Remix)
2. Starkey – Command (Noisses Remix)
3. London Grammer – Hey Now
Currently in the studio with Nicole Jackson (who you may recognise from Redlight’s ‘Get Out My Head’) along with an array of other producers and vocalists, we expect to see a lot more vibe filled music from Noisses in the new year. Catch him this Friday at i-D Online & Black Butter’s Christmas Special at XOYO alongside a line up not to be missed!
