Kicking off the first of their live music events at Brixton Academy last Monday, Radio 1Xtra is now on its way to Birmingham for the final night of the finest 1Xtra music, featuring Alicia Keys, Miguel and Disclosure.
When Kendrick Lamar stepped out onto the Brixton Academy stage on Monday night, ahead of Trey Songz’ headline set and after Tulisa’s warm up session, Kano, Wiley, Tinie Tempah, Etta Bond and Grimmy all watched on from the stands, properly impressed. Turning out en masse to catch the good kid from Compton perform a selection of his recently released album tracks, the sold-out venue’s crowd went mad for the 25-year-old’s awe inspiring performance. Joined by Nigerian dance sensation Wizkid and British R & B lethario Angel, the night went off in style and carried on well into the early hours. Relocating to Manchester, then Liverpool to showcase Radio 1 supported talent Rita Ora, Misha B, DJ Fresh, Wiley, Daley, Plan B, Labrinth, Rudimental and Devlin, 1Xtra DJ’s Charlie Sloth and Mistajam presented each act, taking to the decks in between sets to entertain the fans with fast moving, grime, hip hop and electronic mash ups. Watch it all again here.
i-D online caught up with handsome Camden MC, Charlie Sloth, and fast chatting Nottingham urban legend, Mistajam, to find out more about their lives and Radio 1 loves.
