“I really champion women, I admire women and I want my clothes to empower them and shift them into what they can really, really be.” Harnessing the positive, energy the Olympics bestowed upon London this Summer, English designer Stella McCartney showed a solid gold collection of signature looks in Paris. Focussing on elegance and comfort as opposed to pushing sexy and strained, Joan Smalls, Anja Rubik, Karlie Kloss and Lindsey Wixson prowled the runway in front of a drop dead, gorgeously poised FROW speckled with Salma Hayek, Papa Paul, Ellie Simmonds, Victoria Pendleton and Declaration Issue cover star, M.I.A. “I adore and love her she’s an incredible woman.” Natalia Vodianova gushed after the show. If it ain’t broke don’t fix it and Stella McCartney’s no frills approach to good fashion has won her a following formed of the industry’s most esteemed and informed creatives. For SS13, her innately feminine aesthetic took the form of luxe tracksuit style cut two pieces, interspersed by sharply cut and buttoned drop V neck collars, fitted under belted military cut jackets, flash-bombed with satsuma orange, pine forest green and deep sky blue tunics. Whilst light dresses took centre stage on the show’s most exciting, long-limbed beauties they were followed by patterned shirts and skirts and animal-print jumpsuits, accessorised only by functional satchels. Makeup was clean, hair was simple and combed down, designed for wear by women on the go. Stella’s medal-worthy ethos is all about looking good whilst working hard. Sign up or ship out.
