Edited by Tricia Jones, SOUL i-D is a compendium of works from 300 beloved i-D contributors, collated since 1998, published in 2008 and condensed into a 600-page book of wise words, amusing anecdotes, beautiful images and passing thoughts on the values and ideals of today’s generation. In a bid to spread their pearls of wisdom to the ends of the earth, SOUL i-D has travelled to Paris, Milan, London and New York, and this autumn is exhibiting in Beijing’s Enjoy Museum in a collaboration with retail wonderland Joyce and its dapper President, Andrew Keith.
i-D has spent the last year falling in love with China. Its ancient philosophies, current culture, fresh ideas and beautiful people prompted us to get to know the country’s leading stars. We’ve travelled East to meet immensely talented photographers, Chen Man and Wing Shya, the doctors, chefs, designers, farmers and musicians who are well on their way to building a promising future for their homeland, and the porcelain beauty Fan Bing Bing, who graces the cover of our most recent Role Model Issue. These are just a few of the young people of China who are making up a generation which is breaking free from stereotypes and embracing the global super-power that they are all a part of.
So it made sense for SOUL i-D to pinpoint its next destination at the country’s capital. A special edition of the book, with featured passages translated into Mandarin, launches on 24th October at China’s answer to DSM, The Joyce Boutique, where Tricia Jones will be signing copies. The exhibition will be hitting the Enjoy Museum on 26th October running through to 7th November, and Terry and Tricia Jones will be giving a talk to photography students at Tsingua University on 26th October. If you’re that way bound, get your heart and SOUL to the party, you could learn a lot! This is just the beginning, keep updated with our SOUL diary and i-D in China series.
The SOUL i-D exhibition opens in Beijing at the Enjoy Musuem on the 26th October and runs until 7th November. With huge thanks to our sponsor Joyce, without whom this extension of the SOUL journey would not have been possible.
