Yohji Yamamoto celebrated his tenth anniversary of collaborating with Adidas on Y-3 with a spectacular fashion show in New York yesterday. As Y-3 fans, David Beckham, A$AP Rocky and Anton Yelchin took their seats front row, the back wall stretching the length of the catwalk illuminated a series of dazzling patterns and psychedelic hues. The collection of men’s and womenswear saw the designer, or ‘The Master’ as he’s more affectionately known, explore the more elegant side of sportswear, and innovative ways in which the Adidas three stripes could be worked into the arm bands of jackets, shorts, socks and shoes. Deconstructured outerwear was teamed with ankle-skimming sweat pants, black shiny high performance tracksuits were worn with the hoods up (à la Mr A$AP Rocky himself), and Hawaiwan print jackets, polo shirts and dresses added a jolt of colour for the girls. In short, this was a comprehensive collection that celebrated the very nature of the Yamamoto/Adidas collaboration. Happy anniversary Y-3!
