In a sunny neoclassical conservatory, Vivienne Westwood Red opened with Charlotte Free – her face painted a sweet shade of lime, her pink hair filled with flowers. This was a show of chic tailoring and dashes of cartoon cute, like Cecil Beaton society seen through a trippy prism. Some looks evoked our royal family, others the Addams family – dark goths with white streaks through their hair, and silver skeletons around their necks. A recurring abstract print of Gerhard Richter style melting paints, in particular, stood out. However this was a show with a story to tell, hinted at in a slogan T-shirt and a headscarf scrawled in Gaia philosophy… in a dramatic finale, Queen Viv and Princess Charlotte came out and unrolled a banner across the catwalk, calling for “CLIMATE REVOLUTION”!
