Victoria Beckham’s SS13 collection kick-started with a simple black floor length skirt and lace top. Wonderfully fluid, it was a galaxy away from the structured bodycon dresses she first became famous for. “This season I wanted to show how the design criteria that is inherent to the Victorian Beckham brand can be applied in new ways,” Victoria explained before the show. “Quality and luxury have always been the essence of ready-to-wear and these remain the cornerstone of the collection while a new versatility and modernity has been introduced.” Drop waist dresses, silk shirts and elegant tuxedo jackets introduced much sought after separates to the VB line, while flashes of orange accentuated Victoria’s stylishly understated black and white designs. But, perhaps most surprising of all, Victoria’s trademark skyscraper heels were replaced with Manolo Blahnik flats, proving that there’s definitely more to this Brit than first meets the eye. “Developing this collection has been an incredibly exciting time for me,” Victoria confessed backstage. “I’ve challenged myself to create what I personally want to wear.” The label, now in its fourth year, clearly develops the more Victoria relaxes into her role and is fast on track to becoming the go-too label for the well-rounded woman.
