This season saw Manuela Arcari wrestle with utility and femininity, with utility coming out on top. The ruffles that she proposed were stripped back, to become the unfrilliest of frills and exposed trims were the only adornment to be found. The show notes accurately called it “the rough taste of stripped-down couture”. Using robust fabrics like canvas and duchesse cotton, Arcari showed off her beautiful cutting and rigorous silhouettes whilst minimal crop tops added “no mess” sex appeal. Cropped trousers and long silk boxing style shorts injected the collection a large dose of androgynous cool, emphasised by the addition of flats, either clever techno scuba socks or t-bar ballet pumps. Arcari’s girls are lean, mean and dressed for a scorching hot summer in the city.
