After last AW12′s wall of fire, this season saw Rick Owens in a lighter, more delicate mood, creating an immense monolithic wall of dripping white foam at the foot of the runway that resulted is soft, soapy suds creeping around the models. It was a fitting backdrop to a collection that saw Owens in an indisputably optimistic frame of mind. “I wanted there to be a warmth and a softness and, if possible, a kindness,” Owens told i-D online backstage. This manifested itself in airy, voluminous, ethereal clothes devoid of Owens trademark ferocity; with a new sheerness and softness in the extraordinary and unfamiliar fabrics, a new papery delicacy in the way that they shimmered and cocooned the body. Owens otherworldly gang sported sharply defined chainsaw haircuts (courtesy of i-D contributor and hair maestro Luigi Murenu), that jarred perfectly with their flowing celestial robes and new easy elegance.
