3.1 Phillip Lim. New York, 10/09/12

Phillip Lim went decidedly more street wear this season and stepped away from his signature slick, clean silhouettes. For SS13, he piled on the layers and mixed up prints and the effect was equally beautiful. Print was deconstructed in a style Lim referred to as “cut up” and feminine florals were broken up too, reconstructed with sheer black mesh and intertwined with plaid. New York cool collided with the streets of London, at times with reworked ‘I Love Nueva York’ T-shirts worn with plaid shirts and grunge goddess dungarees. It really was all in the details, which Lim nailed perfectly; low slung jumpers wrapped nonchalantly around the girls’ waists, pared down make-up, bushy hair and the perfect black flats teamed with sheer black socks. Although this felt like a new direction for the designer, broken down, each piece would still stand up next to seasons past.
