The hearts of Peter Pilotto’s colour-crazed fans must have skipped a few beats Monday morning as the first few exits strolled down the catwalk in the NewGen tent on Bedford Square. Everything was black and white, at least for a while until the duo’s trademark colour cacophony slowly conquered the collection. The built-up worked like a step-by-step demonstration of Peter Pilotto and Christopher de Vos’ working process, and testified to the enormous amount of skill that goes into their signature prints. For SS13 these drew on frescoes, but with a certain Technicolour twang to them – especially when in motion like in the ruffled flared skirts, which dominated the silhouettes. Picture the inside of the Basilica of Santa Croce in Florence freshened up by Disney and this was it: Peter Pilotto, brought to you in Technicolor. Or, considering the heavy Indian beading the designers had picked up on a trip to Kolkata, perhaps via Bollywood.
