If the soundtrack wasn’t actually in the film Gladiator, it should have been. A wailing woman called for battle with a heavy drum as Marios Schwab’s warrior women emerged wearing fringed sandals, fringed tabards and Roman leather pleated skirts, some with leather peplum pals. This time Schwab spun his inside-outside aesthetic with beads and leather tassles compartmentalising body parts, and adding a few heavy leather belts that resembled rib cages. The show took a turn with a hexagon print like a blockbuster board or honeycomb, or some more Roman-relevant reference, and after, followed floor-length sheer dresses with high necks but no bras. Schwab identified his themes early: pleats, leather, fringing, and carried them through with great poise, building layer upon layer and look upon look for Roman goddesses, whose wardrobes slipped effortlessly from battlefield to after party!
