West and East, South and North come together last week for a wavvy night out in Kensington Gardens and Peckham Rye.

Last Friday saw the Serpentine Gallery play host to young artist Ed Fornieles’ latest participatory performance ‘The Dreamy Awards‘, the culmination of a summer-long art project about character construction. Combining the characters he cast at the beginning of the season with a sparkling new selection, Ed’s star-studded, 350-strong guest list saw the Serpentine’s Pavilion flooded with a social cocktail of real and pretend personalities attending an awards ceremony where the worlds of advertising, art, fashion, film, music, politics and TV collided, and a giant inflatable basketball floated dreamily overhead on the rainwater roof. Bitchy fashion bloggers, gender-blurring toilet attendants and reality television stars gathered in the Pavilion to witness the spectacle of transvestite NY rapper Mykki Blanco beefing both on- and off-stage with the fictional DJ Hater’s rowdy entourage, and although American dreamboat Zac Efron and Chinese fashionista Ryan Lo’s acceptance speeches calmed the audience for a period, local babe Amber Atherton’s acceptance of an award on behalf of her Made in Chelsea cohort stirred a stage invasion once again… Drama continued until the evening ended with a finale to rival the VMAs, as Lana del Rey (or was it?) performed ‘Video Games’ while hundreds of helium balloons were ritualistically released into the skies above the park. Mykki Blanco and Physical Therapy then took the night South to the Bussey Building on Rye Lane, where they played alongside Matthew Stone to a heaving crowd at the Lucky PDF party, and award winners and losers danced side by side. It’s the stuff that Dreamys are made of!
