Harking back to a time when comfort was integral to travel and the quality of your suitcase hinted to your social status, this season’s Belstaff collection was inspired by the romanticism of globe-trotting. Former Vice President of Design at Burberry turned Chief Creative Officer at Belstaff, Martin Cooper dispatched an army of chino and canvas clad beauties down a clean and simple runway. Referencing the Belstaff archive, drawing on the original all-weather jackets and waxed cotton aesthetic, the quintessential British brand combined the heritage and modernity of the label beautifully. Symmetrical stripes adorned chiffons, subtle lambskins and fine leathers complimented summer whites, and pale gold hardware gave the entire collection an effortless ready-to-wear feel. Oversized buckles, stiff collars and snakeskin detailing offered a softer feminine touch to the more functional outfits. Falling in line with next season’s practical, delicately masculine, khaki-coloured aesthetic, Belstaff presented a considered and luxurious array of solid looks that will be sure to make in onto the fashion editors’ wishlists for SS13.
